ONE unlucky Walsall fan thought he had got a cheap deal on a hotel to watch his team at Portsmouth – but he wasn’t banking on needing a ferry ride to get to it.
The devoted Saddlers follower was stunned when he turned up to find that his accommodation was in fact situated on the Isle of Wight – albeit just 11 miles away.
The infuriated fan amused his Twitter following with his humorous posts
Unlucky fan Davey Drew tweeted his mistake and it was quickly went viral, picking up more than 8,000 retweets and 17,000 likes.
In an attempt to secure the cheapest possible overnight stop, he latched onto the bargain – but failed to do the necessary research.
The hotel originally sounded too good to be true – and it was, because despite near Fratton Park, the digs were actually an entire ferry trip away.
So his trip Portsmouth’s ground took in a delightful boat ride across the Solent.
At least Walsall saw the funny side.
Drew has since been given an invitation to meet the team and have his travel to Portsmouth reimbursed.

Walsall boss Jon Whitney said: [Midfielder] Joe Edwards offered to pay his ferry fare. I’ll chip in as well.
“It’s a funny one but it’s great. It’s a story for him to tell people so I think it will be quite popular on social media.
“We might get to meet him and bring him out and let him see the fans at one home game. We’ll pay his fare for him and help him out.”
Portsmouth eventually played out a 1-1 draw with Walsall.
