Unai Emery set for Arsenal job and Twitter users react with Europa League jibes

May 21, 2018

TWITTER users have poked fun at Arsenal after hearing Unai Emery is to become their next boss.

The Gunners look close to sealing the appointment after Arsene Wenger ended his 22-year reign.

Unai Emery is set to become Arsenal’s new manager

Mikel Arteta had been widely expected to leave Pep Guardiola’s staff at Manchester City and take over.

But now a report on the BBC claims that Emery will be appointed later in the week.

He left Paris Saint-Germain after their final game of the season on Saturday.

Emery has plenty of experience in the Europa League having guided Sevilla to an incredible run of three trophies between 2014 and 2016.

The Gunners are set for another season in Europe’s secondary competition after finishing sixth in the Premier League.

And football fans have been quick to poke fun at the appointment…

Unai Emery?

Goners definitely winning the Europa League next season

I wanted a young, dynamic manager with a proven track record.
I thus approve of Arsenal appointing Unai Emery, 46.
Just won the Treble at PSG after winning 3 successive Europas at Sevilla.
He's a winner.

Get ready for the video sessions, Arsenal players. And lots of them. Joaquin’s famous anecdote is that ‘Emery played so many videos, I ran out of popcorn’. Can exhaust players, suck out their motivation etc.

Have Arsenal literally asked which manager has won the Europa League let's appoint Emery.

Emery set for Arsenal. Very very happy with that. Couldnt handle big players at PSG, not that Arsenal have any though. Europa league manager for a Europa league club.

Worth pointing out that if the Emery news is true, Arsenal will be appointing a manager who has won the Europa League on no fewer than three separate occasions. Tacit admission of their best way into the Champions League, I wonder?

The year is 2022. After leading Arsenal to a third consecutive Europa League Final loss, Unai Emery awakens to a flood of text messages referencing his disastrous, imprudent interview on ArsenalFanTV wherein he drunkenly lambasted the board for their failure to spend properly.

Arsenal aren’t a big club anymore! Arsenal are a Europa League club, They’re not getting top 4 for a couple of years yet! Emery’s a solid clever appointment for the next few years, He’s an experienced head & has won multiple Europa Leagues! Clever appointment, Start the rebuild.

Emery once lost a 4 goal cushion in a CL tie. Definitely Arsenal material

Emery! So underwhelming. The worst Spartak Moscow manager in recent memory. A serial non-top-four-finishing Europa League winner. This is so, so Arsenal.

Unai Emery is a much better choice than Arteta but still not satisfied that he is a world class manager that we need. However all Arsenal need to get behind him for the upcoming season, also this confirms we are winning the Europa league next season
