Tottenham transfer news: Mauricio Pochettino lining up surprise bid for Burnley star Andre Gray in the summer window

TOTTENHAM boss Mauricio Pochettino is lining up a surprise summer swoop for Burnley striker Andre Gray.

According to the Express, the Spurs chief is hoping to alleviate some of the pressure on Harry Kane as the north Londoners look to keep up with Chelsea and Co.

England man Kane has enjoyed yet another superb season at White Hart Lane, netting a league-high 17 Premier League goals already this term.

However, back-up forward Vincent Janssen has struggled mightily in his first season in England – netting just once in the league, despite playing in 15 Prem games.

Meanwhile, Gray has enjoyed a breakout season at Turf Moor under Sean Dyche in 2016-17 – scoring twice in Saturday’s 3-2 defeat at the hands of Swansea.

The former Luton Town striker is being tipped for his first Three Lions call-up by boss Gareth Southgate, having scored eight goals for a Burnley outfit who have found the net just 30 times in 27 games this year.

Should Gray make it into the England squad it would be good practice for the Clarets man - as Spurs are set to play all of their home matches at Wembley next season.

With just 15 months left on his contract - and his stock rapidly rising - Dyche and Co may well consider cashing in on their star forward in the summer.

The lure of European football may be too much for Gray to pass up, with Spurs looking set once more to make it into the Champions League.
