Tottenham will also play Roma and Manchester City in the competition as build-up to the Premier League season that starts at St James’ Park against newly-promoted Newcastle.
And according to The Times, Lamela, 25, will not be in the first-team frame until at least two months into the Prem season.
Lamela has been to Rome to see his former physio Damiano Stefanini in a bid to improve his recovery.
He has posted a number of videos on his Instagram showing his recovery sessions in the pool as he strengthens his muscles.
