Tottenham begin contract talks with Toby Alderweireld to put him in line with top earners after release clause denial

SPURS have begun contract talks with Toby Alderweireld’s advisors about a new big-money deal – after issuing a denial over his release clause fee.

Whistleblowers Football Leaks claimed the Belgium defender could leave for around £25million.

And though he is under contract until 2020, White Hart Lane chiefs look set to reward him with a new pay packet that puts him closer to the club’s top earners.

Spurs insist none of their first-team players have a release clause in their contracts.

The Evening Standard claim any talks over a new deal “have no bearing” on Football Leaks’ alleged revelation.

Alderweireld could be in line to collect £70,000-a-week, on a par roughly with Christian Eriksen, but behind Harry Kane.

The England striker recently signed a new deal worth £150,000-a-week.

Alderweireld, pictured in training today with the likes of Kane, Kyle Walker and Jan Vertonghen, is said by Football Leaks to currently have a £50,000-a-week salary.

They allege that he is entitled to a £260,000 bonus is Spurs qualify for the Champions League and he plays at least 30 games.

He also can pocket £470,000 in image rights and £5,000 for every first-team appearance he makes, it is claimed.

Alderweireld has been out for almost two months with a damaged nerve in his knee.

He completed two double training sessions last week and took part in ball work under the watch of boss Mauricio Pochettino today.
