SUNDERLAND have parted company with their club doctor following the recent Patrick van Aanholt controversy.
Dr Ishtiaq Rehman, the Black Cats’ head of medical services, has resigned from his position after a staffing review.

It comes just days after Sunderland boss David Moyes was left stunned after he was forced to withdraw Van Aanholt from his starting line-up minutes before his side’s 1-0 defeat at Tottenham on cardiac advice.
The Scotsman later expressed his dismay at the timing of the advice, which arrived around 30 minutes prior to kick-off.
He believed it had come from the Football Association, which the governing body quickly denied, and it later merged the club had consulted an independent specialist.

The exit of Rehman comes shortly after last week’s departure of assistant academy director Danny Philpott.
