SUNDERLAND have turned a corner of the Stadium of Light into a temporary shelter for the homeless this weekend.
The stadium’s staff have created a warm-room complete with places to sleep and hot food and drinks as Storm Emma brings bitterly-cold weather across the country.

The north-east remains to be one of the worst areas hit as it battles snow and freezing temperatures.
The club opened its doors for the vulnerable on Friday and it is set to remain open to all until 9am Monday morning.
However if the extreme weather conditions haven’t shifted by then, Sunderland is prepared to extend the arrangement.
A staff member will be there to man the room at Exit 2 in the South West Corner at all times and pets are also welcome.

Donations of food and clothing for local homeless people are also being welcomed by the club.
People wishing to make donations are asked to bring them to the main reception area of the stadium which will be open from 9am-5pm on Saturday and Sunday.
The struggling Championship side play at Milwall on Saturday and had their preparations for the match altered by the storm.
The team trained at the Stadium of Light on Friday with their outdoor pitches at the training ground deemed unplayable and the indoor area not ideal for pre-match preparation.
But only after club staff cleared a think blanket of snow off the pitch.
Coleman was on hand to help shovel the snow – but some frustrated members of the Black Cats faithful were left fuming at the fact players weren’t out on the pitch with shovels in their hands.
