Sunderland boss David Moyes requests personal hearing after being charged by FA following comments to female reporter after 0-0 draw with Burnley

DAVID MOYES has asked for a personal hearing after being charged by the FA following comments to a female reporter.

The Sunderland boss was in the dock after telling BBC reporter, Vicki Sparks, she ‘might get a slap’ when he didn’t like her line of questioning after a 0-0 draw against Burnley on March 18.

He had been given an extra seven days to respond to the charge and did so by the 6pm deadline on Wednesday, where he asked for a personal hearing to explain his remarks.

Moyes later telephoned Sparks to apologise for the comment and did so again once the footage had been made public.

The FA had initially asked Moyes for his observations and, having received them, opted to charge him — alleging his comments were “improper and/or threatening and/or brought the game into disrepute, contrary to FA Rule E3 (1)”.

It is expected he will be fined should he be found guilty.

The 2016-17 campaign has been a dismal one for Moyes, who has already seen Sunderland relegated.
