Sunderland, Birmingham and Hull City in race to land Doncaster star Niall Mason

SUNDERLAND, Birmingham and Hull are battling it out for Doncaster star Niall Mason.

The 21-year-old moved to the Keepmoat Stadium from Aston Villa last year after a successful loan stint and played a major role in Doncaster’s promotion to League One.

The defender will enter the final year of his contract in the summer and his progression has attracted a host of clubs who are closely monitoring his situation.

Leeds United were reportedly keen, but Sunderland who looked certain to suffer back-to-back relegations have already started the rebuilding process as they look to slash their huge wage bill.

The Black Cats want a pool of younger players who can get them out of League One but are also good enough to make an impact in the Championship, and Mason fits the bill.

The former Real Madrid academy product is also on Birmingham boss Garry Monk’s radar.

Monk’s side continued their mini-revival beating Bolton 1-0 at the Macron last night.
