Stud beckons for duo

AWTAAD will retire at the end of the current campaign to stand at Derrinstown Stud along with Markaz.

Kevin Prendergast’s Irish 2,000 Guineas winner has won five of his eight starts to date and remains on course for the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot on Champions Day.

Having met with defeat in the St James’s Palace Stakes and Sussex Stakes, he returned to his best to win the Boomerang Stakes on Irish Champions Weekend last time out.

Owner Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum’s racing manager Angus Gold said: “As far as I’m aware he still on target for Ascot.”

Markaz, a three-time Group-winning sprinter, is a full-brother to Mecca’s Angel.

He began his career with the late John Hills before transferring to his father, Barry, and has been handled this season by Owen Burrows.

Fees for the pair will be announced at a later date.
