Steaua Bucharest manager drinks a bottle of VODKA before every match because of one very bizarre superstition

STEAUA BUCHAREST manager Laurentiu Reghecampf reportedly drinks a bottle of VODKA before every match because of a bizarre superstition.

The Romanian former midfielder, 41, is said to get drunk with his director of football ahead of every game.

Steaua owner Gigi Becali is somewhat perplexed by the habit, saying: “There are strange things happening with those two.”

The tradition began when the Romanian side secured a favourable Europa League result over Zurich – although it’s unclear which game.

The news was revealed by ex-Romania coach Victor Piturca, who simply refers to the game as ‘Episode Zurich’.

He may well be referring to penalty shootout win of 2010 – with Bucharest sneaking through their playoff clash.

Apparently Reghecampf and his director of football drank vodka that night… and have done ever since in order to keep the ‘good luck’ flowing.

However, despite Becali’s seemingly indifferent attitude towards the pair’s drinking, Piturca suggests the owner wants the pair out of the club.

After all, Reghecampf was apparently so intoxicated during one game, he could barely stand on the touchline.

It would also seem the superstition has worn off, with Steaua winning just ONE of their past eight games, drawing four and losing the other three.
