South Africa’s ODI against Sri Lanka forced to be stopped after swarm of BEES invade pitch

SOUTH AFRICA’S one day international against Sri Lanka was forced to be suspended after a swarm of BEES invaded the pitch.

During Sri Lanka’s first innings, with the score at 117/4 in the first innings, umpires and players alike were forced to take cover by lying on the ground as the insects invaded the outfield at the Wanderers in Johannesburg.

Horrifying pictures show the bees surrounding a South Africa helmet in scenes that would make your skin crawl.

All-rounder Chris Morris even brought a fire extinguisher out on the field to try and exterminate them during the third match of the series – but that only partially worked.

And those in the stands were also wary of the invasion, with notices on the big screens warning fans to be careful.
