Sneak a peek at Baku circuit ahead of first Azerbaijan GP

FORMULA ONE arrives in Azerbaijan for the first time on June 17 — and here’s a sneak peak of what awaits from the newest track on the calendar.

Gulhuseyn Abdullayev, 19, a promising Azerbaijani driver, was at the wheel as he completed four laps of the Baku circuit in a GP3 race car.

The footage shows off what could prove to be a worthy addition to the F1 track list, with the race taking drivers through the stunning downtown area of the city.

And it also incorporates the old area of the Azerbaijan capital, past Sabayil Castle and other ancient landmarks.

The layout was designed by renowned F1 track architect Hermann Tilke who claims to have created a challenging street circuit, in terms of engineering and design.

Young pilot Abdullayev certainly seemed to enjoy his test drive and believes teams and fans will be treated to some fascinating racing.

He said: “I liked this track very much. If allowed, I would drive even a longer distance.

“In general, Baku City Circuit does not fall behind of other street circuits, I would say it is even exceeds other street tracks.

“I believe all Formula 1 drivers look forward to racing at this track soon and they will be very delighted to drive at this circuit.”
