SHREWSBURY TOWN have reached their fundraising target and will now be able to begin a building project that will see a safe standing section added to their ground.
The League One club have raised thousands of pounds through a crowdfunding initiative and set a precedence in being the first club in England to introduce safe standing in their stadium.

The campaign to add the section to the Montgomery Waters Meadow stadium raised more than £65,000 through almost 1,000 contributions from individuals and companies.
FansBet sponsorship pushed the club over their target and enabled the club to keep their 2018 launch on track to increase their 10,000 capacity ground.
Shrewsbury Town Supporters’ Parliament, in conjunction with the club, have promoted the campaign to install rail-seating for approximately 500 fans.
Thousands of fans may now call for Premier League grounds to include a safe standing section.

In a statement on the club’s website, Roger Groves of the Shrewsbury Town Supporters’ Parliament shared his pride in being part of a forward-thinking club.
He said: “This is a remarkable achievement by the hundreds of fans and sponsors, especially FansBet, who have paved the way for the thousands more to bring standing back to matchdays at their clubs.
“I am very proud that Shrewsbury Town has been at the heart of this”.
Celtic introduced a safe standing section to their Parkhead stadium which now holds an additional 900 season-ticket holders.

The club have been ahead of the curve for some time and were hailed earlier this year for prioritising access for the visually and hearing impaired, as well as disabled fans.
Within the stadium both home and away fans have dedicated upper tier viewing areas serviced by lifts, as well as front row access for wheelchair users and others with limited mobility.
Radio commentary sets are provided for the blind and partially sighted and sound reinforcement systems aid those with hearing impairments
