Scottish UFC star Stevie Ray says bout with Conor McGregor would be his ‘dream fight’

SCOTTISH lightweight Stevie Ray says he’d love to face Irish superstar Conor McGregor one day.

The Tristar fighter is in the best form of his mixed martial arts career, undefeated in the UFC and riding a five-fight win streak with only two losses in the last four years.

And while the Scot is committed to working his way up the UFC’s talent-stacked 155lb division, he says he’d love to take on ‘The Notorious’ one at some point in the future.

When asked to name his dream fight during a fan Q&A session in Ottawa, Canada, Ray said he’d pick the Dubliner as his ideal opponent.

“Maybe fight McGregor at the 155 division,” he said.

“If he had the belt, even better. That would be cool. Red panty night for me!

“Easy money fight. Fighting him for the title – that would be my dream fight.”

UFC 196: McGregor v Diaz
Set to face Nate Diaz again: Dublin superstar Conor McGregor

Ray, who kicked off his UFC career with back-to-back TKO finishes of Marcin Bandel and Leonardo Mafra, defeated Mickael Lebout in his last outing in Dublin last October.

And while the Scot would love to take on McGregor in Scotland v Ireland lightweight battle, he says the Dubliner’s got his hands full with his next bout, against Nate Diaz, at UFC 202.

“I think McGregor’s used to having the weight advantage and the reach advantage, although he’s got the skills,” he said.

“But I think you’ve seen in the last fight that was struggling with not having the reach advantage. He was lunging in.

“And the fact I think when he’s fighting two weight classes above he maybe got a bit lazy with the cardio and stuff.

“”Cause why get up and run in the morning if you don’t have to, to make weight?

“McGregor can win, so can Diaz. I think Diaz will probably take it in the rematch again.

“It’s anyone’s fight. They’re two of the best fighters in the world, so anyone can take it.

“But I think I’ll go with Diaz.”
