Santos keen on bringing back Robinho, despite looming nine-year sentence for ‘gang rape’

ROBINHO could be offered the chance to return to Santos, despite his looming nine-year prison sentence for “gang rape”, according to reports in Brazil.

The former Manchester City ace was found guilty of sexually assault along with five other men in a Milan night club back in 2013.

Globoesporte reports Santos president-elect Jose Carlos Peres interested in bringing Robinho back to the club where his career started.

But he will need to repair relations with the attacker in order to secure any move, after angering the ex-Brazil international with previous comments.

Peres had previously stated Robinho could not make a return to Santos as it would  damage the image of the club.

But he then changed tact by claiming the move could happen should he prove his innocence.

Peres recently attempted to set up a meeting with Robinho via a mutual friend and was told to contact the player’s agent and lawyer Marisa Alija — who was also infuriated by the comments.

The 33-year-old recently rejected a new contract at Atletico Mineiro, and his current deal runs out on December 31.

Robinho was heralded as future football superstar when he broke into the Santos first team as a youngster, earning a move to Real Madrid.

He then left to join City, before signing for AC Milan and moving to China before making a return to Brazil in 2016.
