Ronald Koeman to Everton: Toffees agree £5m deal to bring Dutchman to Goodison Park from Southampton

EVERTON will pay Premier League rivals Southampton around £5million in compensation to make Ronald Koeman their new manager.

After days of negotiation between the two clubs, the Dutchman is set to be formally announced as the new Toffees boss imminently.

Koeman, 53, leaves after two years in charge at St Mary’s – where he lead the Saints to seventh and sixth in the Premier League.

Everton had been without a manager after sacking Roberto Martinez just before the end of the season.

Koeman, a former star for the Dutch national team, had previously promised to stay at Southampton for the final season of his contract.

He has been a huge hit on the South Coast, winning nearly 50 per cent (44) of 91 matches in all competitions to lead the club to two very impressive finishes.

Southampton have seen a number of their best players move to different clubs in the last two years – with Koeman twice having to reshape his team after the sales of key stars.

Nathaniel Clyne and Morgan Schneiderlin left last summer, a year after the club lost Rickie Lambert, Luke, Shaw, Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren and Calum Chambers.
