Riyad Mahrez’s fluffed penalty against Manchester City see him sit amongst the WORST spot-kick takers in Premier League history

RIYAD MAHREZ fluffed the chance to salvage a draw for Leicester at Manchester City on Saturday afternoon.

Trailing 2-0 at the Etihad, Craig Shakespeare’s Foxes pulled one back through Shinji Okazaki before half-time.

With the clock running down, Mahrez earned himself a penalty – and chance to snatch a late point.

Despite finding the back of the net, Bobby Madley ruled the spot-kick out, claiming Mahrez had connected with the ball twice after slipping.

The ‘miss’ means that the Algerian has no scored just seven of his 11 penalties – for a conversion rate of 64 per cent.

In fact, of all players to take five or more attempts from 12-yards, Mahrez has the sixth-worst record in Premier League history.

Far and away the worst penalty-taker in the Prem era is Stewart Downing with a meagre 40 per cent success rate (two of five).

Chris Brunt's three of six - for 50 per cent - see him sit in second bottom, while Dusan Tadic and Peter Odemwingie boast identical 60 per cent records, on three of give.

Ashley Young has missed three of his eight for 63 per cent, before Mahrez slots in at sixth.

Ben Wilson and Yohan Cabaye have both converted just four of their six spot-kicks (66.7 per cent).

Meanwhile, Jonathan Walters has managed to score 11 Premier League penalties - but has missed five for a 69 per cent success rate.
