Madrid

The Spanish capital has seen a team reach the penultimate stage of the grandest tournament in European football a staggering 32 times.
Although Real Madrid claim 27 of them — which is a record and nine more than second place on the list, Bayern Munich.
Atletico reached this stage for the first time in 1959.
Milan

Only three teams have played in more semi-finals than seven-time winners, Milan.
The Rossoneri have reached the stage on 13 occasions, with the first arriving in 1956.
Inter, who have won the competition three times, have made it to the last-four eight times.
The pair actually face each other in the 2002-03 semi-finals.
But both are a long way off adding to their tally any time soon.
Belgrade

Red Star Belgrad became the first — and to date, only — Serbian side to win the European Cup when their golden generation lifted the trophy in 1991.
It was their third of four semi-final appearances, with their first coming in 1957.
Rivals Partizan played only one semi — beating Manchester United in 1966.
However, they were beaten by Real Madrid in the final.
Glasgow

Rangers were the first Glaswegian side to reach semi-finals — making the first of their two appearances in 1960.
In the first-ever Champions League campaign, the format saw two groups with the winners advancing to the final.
Rangers finished runners-up to eventual winners Marseille, which counts as a semi-final appearance under Uefa rules.
However, Scotland’s only European champion is Celtic, and they made all four of their last-four appearances in an eight-year period — starting from the season they won the Quadruple in
1967.
They also reached the final three years later.
Budapest

Hungary was once the powerhouse of football.
And the Eastern Europeans have had three teams each make one semi-final appearance.
With Vasas, who lost against Real Madrid in 1958, and Ujpest, defeated by Bayern in 1974, both from the capital city.
Their best period arrived before the inception of the European Cup and it is unlikely we will see the like again.
Dundee

Remarkably, the provincial Scottish city was actually the sixth to have two teams in the last-four.
Dundee — led by Bill Shankly’s brother, Bob — lost against eventual winners, Milan, in 1963.
While their arch-rivals, United, were eliminated by Roma 21 years later.
Another feat unlikely to be achieved any time soon.
Bucharest

Steaua Bucharest were the first Romanian team to win the European Cup, beating Barcelona in 1986.
But they weren’t first side from the Balkan nation’s capital to reach the last-four.
Liverpool overcame Dinamo Bucharest on their way to lifting the trophy in 1984.
Prague

Dukla Prague reached the last-four in 1967, only to meet Celtic in the last-four.
The Scots on 3-1 on aggregate to go reach the final.
In 1991-92, there was a semi-final group and Sparta finished behind eventual winners, Barcelona.
In Uefa terms, this is recognised as a semi appearance.
London

For 42 years, Tottenham were the only side from England’s capital city to have played in the European Cup semi-final.
Only Chelsea, in 2004, could match the achievements of Spurs’ 1962 team.
But the Blues have since made up for lost time with a further six appearances in the Champions League last-four.
London is actually the only city to have had three participants with Arsenal — contrary to popular belief — reaching the same stage on two occasions.
Manchester

United were the first English team to reach the semi-finals, back in 1957.
And the Red Devils have made more appearances than any other team from the British Isles, reaching the last-four on 12 occasions.
City reached the last-four last season, but were knocked out by Real Madrid.
With Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola at the helm, it is conceivable the pair will meet soon at this stage.
