Rodriguez earned global recognition after dazzling at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, where he won the Golden Boot as well as scoring the goal of the tournament – a scorching volley against rivals Uruguay.
The 25-year-old has fell down the pecking order at Madrid this season – losing his place to Isco in the starting XI, but he has established himself as an integral part of the squad in 2017.

He has notched up 11 goals and eight assists in all competitions this season, but has only started a mere 13 times in La Liga this campaign.
Manchester City and Chelsea are also thought to be keen on luring him to England, with the Blues being foiled in their attempts to sign him in the winter transfer window.
But United are believed to be the key favourites to nab the former Porto star away from Spain, with Marca claiming super agent Jorge Mendes could have a huge role to play.
Mendes represents both Rodriguez and Mourinho, intensifying the speculation that the Red Devils could potentially bring him in.
Guillem Balague told Sky Sports recently: “James is wanted by many teams in Europe, and for me Manchester United are the favourites to get him.
"His agent is Jorge Mendes who is very close to Jose Mourinho.
"He is the kind of player who instead of going to a club that is guaranteed to win the title next season, would be willing to help a team on the up, and Manchester United with the investment coming in the summer should be contenders for everything.
"Although it's one thing to be contenders and another thing to win."
