Current first choice Keylor Navas is only seen as a temporary measure, with a number of high-profile recent errors by the Costa Rican speeding up Real’s search.
Navas scored an own goal in Saturday’s 2-1 win over Real Betis before just about avoiding being sent off.
Chelsea number one Thibault Courtois was also scouted during the 1-0 win for his sideReuters
During the match, which Chelsea dominated and won 1-0 thanks to N’Golo Kante’s fine strike, De Gea was the busier of the two, making some incredible saves to deny the Blues.
Belgian Courtois was quieter, but had to impressively deny Marcus Rashford towards the end to keep yet another clean sheet in a fantastic season.

Interest in Spaniard De Gea culminated in the failed deadline day move in August 2015 when fax machines were blamed for the breakdown of his move to Madrid.

The 26-year-old was born in the Spanish capital and played for Real's rivals Atletico before moving to Old Trafford in 2011 - and wants to return one day to his hometown.
But United are determined not to sell, with boss Jose Mourinho a difficult negotiator particularly with his old club - and De Gea is under contract for another two years with an optional extension.

Courtois meanwhile spent three years on loan at Atletico from Chelsea between 2011 and 2014 - the Blues having signed him from Belgian side Genk as one for the future.
He returned to London to become the new number one at Stamford Bridge under Mourinho at the start of the 2014-15 season and has impressed ever since.
But Courtois is known to love Madrid, choosing to keep his wife and daughter in the city to enrol her in school there instead of coming to London.
But today Courtois played down Real Madrid's interest - he told Spanish radio after last night's game: "Right now I am enjoying all the success here and I am focusing on that. I want to win the league."
