18.00: So that’s all from me today. Thanks for joining me on what’s been a mixed day in the Premier League. We’ll be back in midweek for the second legs of the Champions League qualifiers. Enjoy the rest of your evening and goodbye!
17.57: So we got a goal in end but it was hardly the greatest game ever played, was it? Eddie Howe should be worried because his Bournemouth team were very average today and they’re now bottom of the table without a point. Early days, of course, but they offered little or no threat throughout most of that game.
17.55: FT: WEST HAM 1 BOURNEMOUTH 0
17.53: And nearly another for West Ham as Jonathan Calleri breaks free but fires wide with the goal at his mercy. But it won’t matter. There’s the final whistle! The Hammers have the points!
17.52: So nearly a leveller for the Cherries as Josh King takes Steve Cook’s long throw on his chest before spinning and striking at goal but there’s Adrian to save the day. Great technique by King there. Unlucky.
17.50: Four minutes of added time…
17.48: Change for West Ham now as Gokhan Tore is replaced by Pedro Obiang. Bournemouth also swapped Ryan Fraser for Dan Gosling a few moments ago.
17.47: Very funny…
17.45: Gokhan Tore does brilliantly to retrieve the ball before standing a cross up to the back post where Michail Antonio arrives and thumps a header into the back of the net. WEST HAM 1 BOURNEMOUTH 0
17.44: AT LAST! GOOOOAAAAALLLL!!!
17.41: ‘Stand up if you want to move back!’

17.39: SUBSTITUTION! Late change for West Ham with Fletcher coming on for Nordtveit. Seismic.
17.36: DISMISSAL! Harry Arter hauls down Kouyate and that’s a second yellow card for the Cherries midfielder. Spot on decision. Eddie Howe immediately shuffles his pack, taking off Jordan Ibe and replacing him with Nathan Ake. Ibe, predictably, takes an eternity to leave the field so James Collins gives him a helpful shove just to speed things along.
17.33: SUBSTITUTION! Off goes Callum Wilson to be replaced by Lewis Grabban. Let’s see if he can do any better.
17.30: This, literally, is the highlight of the game so far…

17.28: In fact, it’s like watching a game at the Emirates…
17.23: Hate to say it but I think they might have been right about the change in atmosphere. Meanwhile, Jordan Ibe weaves across the box before trying a shot from 18 yards. It’s low and on target but about as powerful as my travel hairdryer. Not that I’ve actually got one.
17.20: SUBSTITUTION! Bang goes my Enner Valencia bet. Off he goes to be replaced by Jonathan Calleri. Thanks Slaven.
17.18: Chance for Gokhan Tore at the back post as he catches a cross on the volley but he hits it into the ground and straight into the side netting. The game’s opening up now and that’s no bad thing.
17.16: Not sure those video screens are big enough…

17.12: This is a different Bournemouth side. They’ve started this second period with real intent and now it’s Josh King who tries his luck, hammering a rasping drive from 25 yards that forces Adrian into a solid save as he tips it over. Finally, this game is coming to life.
17.10: Oh dear Jordan Ibe. He’s clean through on the right with just Adrian to beat but he opts to pull it back across goal, allowing the West Ham defence to get back and clear. What was he thinking? Eddie Howe’s not happy either. Not surprised really.
17.09: FACT ME! The London Stadium is the 55th different ground to host a Premier League game.
17.06: HURRAH! Bournemouth have a shot on target and it’s Adam Smith who has it, firing a daisy-cutter in from 20 yards. It’s a comfy save for Adrian though.
17.03: The players are back out once more and we’ll be ready to go just as soon as Craig Pawson blows his thing… PEEP! WE ARE OFF!
16.58: Can we put the hammer throwing on again instead?

16.55: As poor as West Ham were they were still much more impressive than Bournemouth, They mustered just one shot in the first half. Safe to say they’ve come for a point.
16.51: Well if that’s what getting a spanking new stadium for peanuts does for your football then I’ll take the old one back, thanks. Hardly the greatest advert for the ‘West Ham Way’, was it?
16.49: HT: WEST HAM 0 BOURNEMOUTH 0
16.48: BOOKING! Winston Reid is the latest to go in Craig Pawson’s book as he fires a verbal volley at the lino. You can’t do that son, not in New Zealand and not here. Yellow card and, yes, half-time.
16.41: GET THAT BUNTING UP! THERE’S BEEN A SHOT ON TARGET! And it’s Enner Valencia who has it, muscling through on the inside right channel before forcing Artur Boruc into a reflex save at his near post. Get in!
16.39: BOOKING! Another yellow card now as Sam Byram first cleans out Ryan Fraser and then does the double by making sure Callum Wilson’s run goes no further. To be honest he could have got one for either of those challenges. Or both.
16.36: There’s a half-volleyed snapshot from Kouyate from 20 yards but it’s hopelessly over the top. Still, at least West Ham are trying to attack. No such intentions from Bournemouth it seems. Meanwhile, there’s a yellow card for Steve Cook as he goes through the back of Enner Valencia just as West Ham try to break
16.34: BOOKING! Bournemouth’s Harry After gets a yellow card for remonstrating a little too vociferously after he appeared to handle the ball.
16.32: Half an hour played and neither goalkeeper has had to make a save. Way to go!
16.29: Enner Valencia, the man I have money to score the first goal, is really struggling after coming off worse in a challenge with Adam Smith. Man up and win me some money.
16.26: Sustained pressure from the Hammers as they seek the breakthrough, with Noble and Valencia heavily involved. The latter thinks he should have had a penalty too as he was challenged by Steve Cook but that was about as much of a spot-kick as me tripping up the stairs when I got in last night.
16.23: Free-kick in Dmitri Payet territory for the Hammers as Tore is felled by Daniels on the edge of the box. But Payet’s not playing so Tore will take it… and duff it straight into the wall. Great.
16.22: Someone doesn’t like the bubbles…

16.19: The Hammers fans are trying to get their team going but I doubt the players can hear them what with them being so far away.
16.15: Bournemouth are shading the possession stats at the moment but as we all know after yesterday, possession counts for nowt in this game. Meanwhile, Jordan Ibe has a little run and cross down the right but it come to nothing. This game needs a goal. Or some lions to be released on to the field of play.
16.14: ‘So how did you make your money Mr. Sullivan?’

16.11: FACT ME! This pitch is actually six metres longer and four metres wider than Upton Park.
16.10: They could liven this game up by staging a javelin competition at the same time. Just like 2012. Nice nod to the past.
16.08: First real shot of the day and it comes from Gokhan Tore whose first shot is blocked and whose follow-up attempt is curled high and wide of the far post. Better from the Hammers though.
16.06: FACT ME! The Hammers have scored at least one goal in each their last 14 league matches.
16.03: Not much happening in these opening minutes. Was never like this at Upton Park.
16.00: The bubbles have been blown and we’re almost ready to go. Crack on then Craig Pawson… WE’RE OFF AT THE LONDON STADIUM!!
15.56: Here come the teams to be welcomed by 57,000 fans. There’s no denying it, it’s very impressive…
15.54: The teams are in the ridiculously large tunnel/corridor. Meanwhile, Andy Carroll is backing the boys – and himself…
15.51: Ten minutes to kick-off in East London. These old guys are ready, are you?

15.49: DID YOU KNOW? Bournemouth’s 4-3 away win in this fixture last season was their first ever top-flight victory. It was also West Ham’s only defeat to Bournemouth in seven league and cup meetings.
15.46: Your referee today is the man that always looks like he’s on the verge of tears, Craig ‘It’s Pawson not Dawson!’ Pawson…

15.45: Oh dear…
15.41: One change for the Cherries as Eddie Howe gives a Premier League debut for young Ryan Fraser in midfield. BOURNEMOUTH: Boruc, Smith, Francis, Cook, Daniels, Ibe, Arter, Surman, Fraser, Wilson, King
15.38: But I’m guessing you want the team news, right? And you want it now? Well, the Hammers bring Tore in for Ayew and Byram comes in at right-back so Antonio can move up the field to his rightful place. Dmitri Payet isn’t even on the bench. Interesting. WEST HAM: Adrian; Byram, Reid, Collins, Masuaku; Noble, Nordtveit, Kouyate; Tore, Antonio; Valencia.
15.35: So now we turn our attention to the imaginatively-named London Stadium as West Ham host Bournemouth in their first league game at their impressive new home…

15.20: ALL OVER! BORO BEAT SUNDERLAND AND THE BOOING BEGINS AT THE STADIUM OF LIGHT! FT: SUNDERLAND 1 MIDDLESBROUGH 2
15.18: Three added minutes as Negredo makes way for Nugent.
15.14: This has been a much better effort from Sunderland in this half. Greater purpose, greater energy and greater guile but still they’re behind. Meanwhile, England superstar David Nugent (one cap, one goal) is going to be coming on shortly.
15.13: Five minutes plus stoppage time left for play, as Alan Green would say.
15.10: There’s a change for Boro too with Nsue making way for Ayala.
15.07: Change for Sunderland. Joel Asoro comes on for Duncan Watmore and he becomes Sunderland’s youngest ever Premier League player. He was born in 1999. That’s just wrong, sorry.
15.05: This is going to be a very long 15 minutes for Boro, especially with Brad Guzan being Brad Guzan…
15.01: What’s happened to Boro? They’re all over the place! It doesn’t help that Brad Guzan’s Teflon hands keep spilling shots all the time, the latest being a rasper from Adnan Januzaj. Boro need to sort this out or they’re going to blow what looked like a nailed-on three points.
14.58: It’s been on the cards and now Sunderland have a GOOOOAAAALLLL! It’s a fierce low shot from Duncan Watmore that Brand Guzan spills at the feet of Patrick Van Aanholt and he pokes home the rebound. The comeback is on. SUNDERLAND 1 MIDDLESBOROUGH 2
14.56: It’s all Sunderland now as they make camp in the Boro half but every now and then the visitors break and can cause problems. Take this latest chance for Negredo. He’s clean through on goal but his first touch is dreadful and allows Mannone to come off his line and make the save. That could have been game, set and match to the Boro/
14.52: Adnan Januzaj recovers Duncan Watmore’s cross, drives into the box and then curls a left-footer way over the top. Disappointing. Moments later, Boro’s local boy made good Ben Gibson hurls himself in front of a Jermain Defoe shot to prevent what would have been a certain goal. Heroic defending there. Give him a medal.
14.51: Good idea…
14.46: Change for Boro and it’s Gaston Ramirez leaving us to be replaced by Albert Adomah. Meanwhile, it’s Sunderland’s best spell for some time, culminating in a fierce cross shot from Patrick van Aanholt that’s brilliantly tipped round the far post by Guzan.
14.44: According to Sky Sports’ commentary team the 2,000-strong Boro contingent are having “the time of their lives” at the Stadium of Light today. If that’s true then they need to get out more.
14.40: Stu-pot does it again…

14.37: The Boro fans aside, it’s very quiet at the Stadium of Light. Can it really be that all too predictable sense of despondency has already set in at Sunderland? In other news, age-old foes Barragan and Defoe clash in the Boro box and there’s a half-hearted appeal for a penalty. It’s not given and referee Martin Atkinson runs off in the opposite direction.
14.33: The players are back out and we are under way again. One change for the Black Cats as Paddy McNair makes way for Jeremain Lens. Not the greatest start to his Sunderland career, is it?
14.31: So what’s David Moyes got up his sleeve for the second half? He needs to ring the changes and fast as Boro were more than deserving of their two-goal lead.
14.23: What was noticeable as the half-time whistle sounded was the boos ringing out around the Stadium of Light. They’re never happy, are they? I mean, they’ve only played one and a half games so far this season!
14.20: What are the chances…
14.18: And there’s the half-time whistle! Well played the Boro! HT: SUNDERLAND 0 MIDDLESBOROUGH 2
14.16: And it’s that man Christian Stuani again! But all the praise should go to Alvaro Negredo who turned the Sunderland defence inside out and rather than shooting himself, simply teed up Stuani instead for a simple finish. So unselfish. SUNDERLAND 0 MIDDLESBOROUGH 2
14.15: GOOOOOAAAALLLL!!!
14.14: How one-footed is Adnan Januzaj? Must be the years he spent with Giggsy at Old Trafford.
14.10: Five minutes to the break and Boro have played this half very cannily. They”ll be more than happy with how they’ve coped so far.
14.07: Early change for Sunderland as the nobbled John O’Shea is forced to take his leave. On comes Steven Pienaar, a player who David Moyes has now signed three times. Safe to say he likes the cut of his jib then (whatever a ‘jib’ is).
14.05: Does he get a telegram from HM The Queen? Actually, do telegrams still exist?
14.03: A promising move from Sunderland comes to a premature end as Jermain Defoe duffs his cross straight into the arms of a grateful Brad Guzan. That was rubbish, sorry.
13.58: Referee Martin Atkinson is forced to intervene as Barragan and Defoe wrestle like God intended on the touchline. Reminds me of that scene with Oliver Reed and Alan Bates in Women In Love, only clothed.
13.55: BOOKING! The first yellow of the day and it goes to Boro’s Adam Clayton who takes down Adnan Januzaj with the kind of challenge that you only usually see when over-zealous stewards are trying to catch a streaker.
13.51: The Boro are looking very dangerous on the break. This time it’s Adam Forshaw who, inspired by Stuani, has a dabble from 25 yards. Sadly, he’s not in the same league as the Uruguayan and it’s low, wide and very poorly hit.
13.48: BOOM!!!

13.44: Boro have barely had a look in but they break quickly and the space opens up for Cristhian Stuani who then works the ball on to his right foot and hammers an unstoppable shot into the top corner from 20-odd yards. What a goal. Take the rest of the day off. SUNDERLAND 0 MIDDLESBROUGH 1
13.43: MAN ALIVE!!! GOOOOOAAAAALLLL!!!
13.41: Now Jermain Defoe scampers and scurries and causes a whole heap of panic in the Boro box. The pressure is only relieved when Barragan steps in and wallops it out for a corner.
13.39: Lovely work by Lynden Gooch on the left as he whips in a teasing cross to the back post that only just skips past the on-rushing Adnan Januzaj. Very promising.
13.35: Sunderland have started much the brighter here and Duncan Watmore, with his first class degree in economics, is supplying and demanding in equal measure.
13.32: Early injury for Alvaro Negredo who’s gets nutted in the back of his head by Djilobodji as the Sunderland defender challenges him in the air. That looks painful. Not for Djilobodji though. He didn’t feel a thing.
13.30: The hands have been shaken and the pleasantries exchanged and we are ready to go. Mr. Atkinson, if you will please… PEEP! WE ARE OFF!!!
13.27: OK, so five minutes to the kick-off at the Stadium of Light and the teams are making their way out on to the pitch, led by referee Martin Atkinson. And there’s the official Premier League plinth. Just beautiful.
13.21: Alvaro ‘The Beast’ Negredo will be looking to become the first Boro player to score in back-to-back Premier League games since Alfonso Alves in October 2008. And I’ve got money on him to do just that.

13.18: A little over 10 minute to kick-off so just time to post this…

13.14: Your referee for this afternoon’s game is the one, the only, the man, the mystery, the marvel that is Martin Atkinson.

13.08: What an evocative photograph. Really encapsulates the pre-match tension of a north-east derby (i.e. not the north-east derby)…

13.04: Worryingly, the Black Cats are winless in their last 15 Premier League games in the month of August (D8, L7).
13.00: One man you will be seeing, though, is Jermain Defoe. He’s scored in six of his last 10 Premier League games.

12.57: One man you won’t be seeing today is Sunderland’s Lamine Kone (below). He’s been told to stay away by manager David Moyes. That seems like a dust-up that can’t be resolved. Go on, make them an offer…

12.50: Blue skies above the Stadium of Light today. Ideal for a fly past with a banner demanding David Moyes to be sacked if you ask me…

12.46: FACT ME! It is more than 10 years since Middlesbrough’s last Premier League win against Sunderland. They won 3-0 at the Stadium of Light back in January 2006 with goals from Emanuel Pogatetz, Stuart Parnaby and Jimmy-Floyd Hasselbaink. Them were the days.
12.42: And here, fresh from the printer, is your Boro starting line-up: MIDDLESBROUGH: Guzan, Nsue, Barragan, Gibson, Friend, Clayton, Forshaw, Stuani, Ramírez, Downing, Negredo
12.39: So it’s David Moyes’ first home game as Sunderland boss and he’s decided to give 20-year-old American Lynden Gooch a Premier League start. SUNDERLAND: Mannone; van Aanholt, Djiliobodji, O’Shea, McNair; Love, Rodwell; Gooch, Watmore, Januzaj; Defoe.
12.35: Hello, good afternoon and welcome to our live coverage of today’s two Premier League games. I’m Gavin Newsham and I’ll be here to talk you through West Ham v Bournemouth at 4pm and, first, Sunderland v Middlesbrough from the Stadium of Light, not the Stadium De-Light, although that does look top-notch…
