Jones has had an injury nightmare in recent years – with question marks over his defending being exacerbated by constant periods on the sidelines under Louis van Gaal.
He featured in 13 games of United’s season last term, with 24 the season before.

Mourinho said: “We play on Thursday here, then we go back and play at 12 o’clock on Sunday. I’ll try and have a strong team here, a strong team for Sunday and give rest to some players.”
