PERU are taking plenty of mineral water and soft drinks to Buenos Aires for their decisive World Cup qualifier with Argentina.
It begs the question: are the Peruvians scared of a repeat of 1990 when Brazilian player Branco drank water offered by the Argentines thought to contain sleeping pills?

The Samba boys ended up losing 1-0 and were out of the World Cup finals at the round of 16 stage.
Afterwards Branco said he felt a “dizziness” at half-time – and Maradona confirmed the story in 2004.
According to journalist Ariel Palacios, a correspondent in Argentina, the Peruvians are afraid to see their players suffer with “derangements”.
They are very suspicious about a possible local manoeuvre to include disruptive elements in any liquid refreshment offered.
The Peruvian team doctor has not officially declared his suspicions.
And the official the reason for the move is to avoid what he did indeed call “derangements” that can occur when players travel to other countries.

This game on Friday is key for Peru. After a late winner away to Ecuador they occupy an automatic qualifying position ahead of the final two rounds of qualifiers in South America.
They are, incidentally, locked on 24 points with Argentina.
Six points would definitely secure them automatic qualification, four points would probably be enough to at least get a play-off against New Zealand.
Three points might just do it if others fail to get the job done.
Peru’s final match is at home to Colombia next Tuesday.
They haven't made the finals since 1982 and more than 5,000 Peruvians are expected to make the trip to Buenos Aires.
