Paul Pogba a big game bottler and top four push gone — five things we learnt from Manchester United vs Bournemouth

MANCHESTER UNITED and Bournemouth played out a thrilling 1-1 draw which had almost everything.

There were two penalties and a red card as referee Kevin Friend was kept busy — and his match report will likely make for some very interesting reading.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Tyrone Mings were involved in an on-pitch flashpoint which ended with Andrew Surman seeing red for Bournemouth.

Here are five things we learnt.

Ibrahimovic and Mings face bans

Mings viciously stamped on Ibrahimovic’s head before the Swede reacted with an elbow to the face.

The United striker was pushed to the ground by Surman to earn a second yellow card — and only moments later when Friend realised he had earlier booked the Bournemouth man, a red.

The referee didn’t see the incident and when they are both retrospectively looked at, the pair will no doubt receive minimum three match bans.

Boruc another Old Trafford star

What is it about opposition goalkeepers at Old Trafford?

Stoke’s Lee Grant, West Ham’s Adrian and Burnley’s Tom Heaton all had stormers as their clubs claimed draws — while even Claudio Bravo impressed.

And Artur Boruc is the latest to produce a dazzling display.

Aside from his penalty save, the Pole kept United at bay with stops from Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial.

Rooney confirmed second choice

Yes, the United captain started a Premier League match again.

But Wayne Rooney struggled to influence this match.

And, with his side pushing for an equaliser, was sacrificed in place of Jesse Lingard.

Top four gone?

While United remain in and about the Champions League places, their inability to take advantage when opportunities open up could cost them.

Liverpool vs Arsenal meant a win would guarantee they finish the weekend in fifth place.

But once again, they failed to take all three points and will lose more points than their rivals between now and the end of the season.

Pogba’s got no bottle

PA:Press Association

He may be the world’s most expensive player, but Pogba is far from one of the best.

A couple of poor balls and he completely lost his head. Whether it was missing chances or getting in the way of his team-mates.

Pogba was supposed to be a leader in the middle of the park, but has been extremely disappointing — especially in the big games.
