Nike design special merlot coloured boots for Andrea Pirlo to reflect ‘his passion for winemaking’
ANDREA PIRLO is widely accepted to be coolest footballer around due to his love of the finer things in life – none more so than a passion for fine wine.
The AC Milan, Juventus and Italy legend might now play across the pond in the MLS, but he owns with his family a winery in the Lombardy region of northern Italy called Pratum Coller.

And now his boot manufacturer Nike have paid homage to his grape obsession by unveiling some new footwear for the brilliant playmaker.
Nike have taken their Tiempo boot and turned the leather into a Merlot colourway inspired by the juice of the grape of Pirlo‘s favourite wine.
Pratum Coller’s logo has four gold stars, so Nike have replicated that for the “Tiempo Pirlo” boot with four similar gold stars appearing on the boot’s heel in homage to Italy’s World Cup titles.

Nike have also tried to make the packaging look like you are opening a bottle of wine, rather than a football boot.
On the pitch, Pirlo played for Patrick Vieria‘s New York City at the Yankee Stadium where they lost ground in the MLS table on Sunday as they were beaten 3-1 away at New England, despite a 49th-minute Frank Lampard strike.
