And the Chronicle claims that Premier League rivals Everton have already held talks with the St. James’ Park officials for a fee of over £6million.
The Toffees will face stiff competition for the centre-half, with Tottenham and Southampton both also interested in the teen prodigy.
Gibson only has a year remaining on his scholarship with Newcastle – meaning that it can be terminated at any time in the final 12 months.
Everton are leading the race for his signature as they continue to try and thrash out an agreed fee.
Should both clubs be unable to settle on a figure, then the Court of Arbitration for Sport will determine the amount.
His loss would be a huge blow for the North East outfit as they attempt to try and bring as many youngsters through their system as possible.
