Newcastle beat Manchester United to extend Jose Mourinho’s miserable run at St James’ Park

JOSE MOURINHO’S miserable run at St James’ Park continued today with the Portuguese now winless in seven at Newcastle.

The Magpies moved out of the relegation zone after Matt Ritchie’s strike earned them a crucial 1-0 victory.

And former Chelsea chief Mourinho has now taken just three points from a possible 21 on Tyneside in the Premier League.

Toon’s victory was also the sixth time Rafa Benitez has got the better of the Special One, with only Pep Guardiola boasting more.

The Manchester City chief has come out on top of his old foe nine times.

Ritchie’s 65th-minute strike following a set-piece secured Toon’s first home victory since October.

Anthony Martial and Alexis Sanchez both missed guilt-edged chances as United failed to close the gap to high-flying rivals City.

And an unimpressed Mourinho fumed: “My verdict is that we could’ve been here for 10 hours and not scored a goal.

“Newcastle played with their lives and defended with their lives.

“They got from us a defensive mistake and from a lateral free-kick they scored. The gods of football were clearly in their side.

“They must have an amazing feeling after giving absolutely everything.

“We had some [chances] with the score at 0-0. Alexis [Sanchez] had an open goal and then the countless opportunities of the last 20-25 minutes.

“The double [miss] of Martial is incredible in the last minute.”
