And she would have broken the age-group record by over HALF A SECOND if it wasn’t for the breeze.
An illegal tailwind of 2.2 metres per second rendered the semi-final run null and void as a record, but Lyston showed it was no fluke in the final, running 23.72sec.
She is the first ever girl to run under 24 seconds at Champs – the nickname for Jamaica’s Boys and Girls Championships – that has seen the birth of the likes of multiple Olympic champs Bolt and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce as world-class young sprinters.

But the sport is littered with promising youngsters who have had growth spurts in their early teens and looked impressive compared to their rivals, only to be caught up by the time they reach senior level.
And Lyston will have no shortage of coaches in Jamaica and American colleges wanting to scout her in the future in a bid to develop her career.
