The first Nations League matches will take place in September this year.
The tournament involves promotion and relegation and is designed so that similarly-ranked countries play each other in competitive games, in an attempt to reduce the reliance on meaningless friendlies.
It will also offer some, who do not qualify via the normal route, a path to the Euro 2020 play-offs.

The 55 associations have been split into four leagues according to their coefficients.
Four group winners of League A will qualify for the Nations League finals which will take place in June 2019.
The winners of Leagues B, C and D gain promotion and those at the bottom of A, B and C will be relegated.
The competition will see semi-finals, the final and a third-placed game, held between June 5-9, 2019.

The 16 Nations League group winners will go into play-offs for Euro 2020, to be played in March 2020.
