Matty Taylor’s move from Bristol Rovers to Bristol City to be probed by Football League after complaint

BRISTOL CITY are facing a Football League investigation over the transfer of Matty Taylor from hated rivals Bristol Rovers.

The move was the first between the two clubs in 30 years and Rovers are concerned that City had inside knowledge of Taylor’s contract – something confidential under Football League rules.

According to the Daily Mail, City may have known about the £300,000 release clause in the striker’s contract.

Their bid matched the exact figure of the clause.

Players, or their reps, are not allowed to disclose such figures to rival clubs and Rovers now plan to make an official complaint.

League One Rovers are also concerned that Taylor’s agent Tam Byrne has a close relationship with City boss Lee Johnson.

Byrne’s employer, the Wasserman Media Group, claim that he did not leak any private information and that although the agent is a friend of Johnson’s, he does not represent him.

The Mail report that Bristol City sources say that they were made aware of Taylor’s clause because of media speculation in the days leading up to the move.

Taylor, who scored 27 goals for Rovers last season and has 19 already in this campaign, has had to have a police presence at his home since the move was announced.
