MARK HUGHES has been sacked by Stoke following their 2-1 FA Cup humiliation at the hands of League Two side Coventry.
Hughes’ terrible run has seen the Potters pick up just two victories from their past 13 games.

And the FA Cup giant-killing – Hughes’ 200th game in charge of the Potters – was finally enough for Stoke chiefs to pull the plug.
A Stoke statement read: “We would like to thank Mark for all he has achieved for the Club over the last four and a half years, notably in guiding us to three successive ninth places finishes in the Premier League, and we wish him every success for the future.
“The Club will look to appoint a new manager as soon as possible and will be making no further comment at this time.”
Ryan Giggs has been installed as early favourite to replace him.

Hughes was defiant following the humbling by the Sky Blues.
He said: “It’s clearly a difficult time for us. When we make mistakes, we’re getting penalised.
“Clearly, the only to quieten down the noise around the club is to win games. We need to turn it around and quickly.
“We’re good enough in this league, we’ve proved it during my tenure, but we’ve got to be better in key moments.
“We’re all under pressure. I can take the pressure and the focus. I’m not naive and I realise people will talk about my position.
“But we’ve got good owners who will make the right decisions for the club. They have done before and they’ll do it again.”
