But just three minutes later, Balotelli was sent off in another bizarre twist in his up and down career.
The sending off seemed a little harsh at the time; due to the nature of his late goal, Balotelli celebrated wildly and was booked for taking his shirt off.
Then in the 94th minute he had an altercation with Steve Moreira and saw red but Nice held on for the three points.
However, according to one European football writer, the referee later admitted to making a mistake and withdrew his decision.
He said: "Ref who sent off Balotelli y'day now admitted mistake, so Balotelli's sent off has been overruled. Balotelli rehabilitated. Future is now." [sic]

The ex-Liverpool and Manchester City striker left Merseyside on deadline day as he was finally sold after clubs showed interest but failed to make it concrete.
Nice decided to take the gamble and it seems to be paying off as the striker has now bagged 6 goals for his new club.
