Manchester United transfer news: Dries Mertens’ Napoli future rests with his wife, claims Aurelio De Laurentiis
MANCHESTER UNITED target Dries Mertens’ future rests on his wife, according to Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis.
The Belgium international has scored 28 goals and assisted a further seven in all competitions this season, putting him firmly on Jose Mourinho’s radar.
Dries Mertens’ Napoli future depends on his wifeEPA
United reportedly scouted Mertens earlier this month and are tempted to meet his £30million release clause.
However, his wife Katrin Kerkhofs will have the final say, with De Laurentiis claiming: “Mertens? I think he wants to stay in Napoli, but then you need to ask his wife.
“If Dries finds a solution with her there’s no doubt he will stay here and we’ll welcome him with open arms.”
Laurentiis has also revealed why Chelsea missed out on signing Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly last summer.

But Laurentiis claims the offer would have been accepted if Chelsea had made it earlier, giving Napoli time to find a replacement.
He added: “As for Koulibaly, Chelsea had offered £46.5m, but I told Conte that I could not give him up without first having a worthy substitute.”
