Manchester United to resurrect Victor Lindelof deal in the summer after sell-on clause is bought-out by Benfica

MANCHESTER UNITED will now move for Victor Lindelof in the summer, according to reports in Portugal.

Jose Mourinho had been put off of signing the Benfica defender because of his high price-tag – but Benfica have now bought-out a troublesome release clause which should clear a path to his signing.

Lindelof’s former club Vasteras had a sell-on clause for the Swedish defender that proved to be a stumbling block in the deal.

But according to Portuguese paper O Jogo, Benfica have now paid £4.3million to remove it from his contract.

That could see Mourinho target the 22-year-old defender this summer.

The Manchester United boss had also lost interest as Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo have formed a reasonably solid partnership.

But the Special One knows that the pair will not be good enough to compete for the Premier League title and Champions League next season – should the club finish in the top four.

Mourinho will want to strengthen his side again in the summer, with former club Chelsea already 14 points clear at the top of the Premier League.

The Blues have also been linked with Lindelof, with Benfica keen on sparking a bidding war between the two clubs.
