Manchester United target Gareth Bale ‘unhappy’ at being substituted against Juventus as relationship with Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane hits new low

GARETH BALE was “unhappy” after his half-time substitution against Juventus, according to reports.

With Real Madrid trailing 2-0 at home in the Champions League quarter-final second leg, Zinedine Zidane took the Welshman off  at the interval.

The relationship between the pair has been rocky for the majority of the campaign as Bale, 28, has been omitted from the starting line-ups for several big games.

And the Daily Mail report that, while he is far from pleased at being hauled off against Juve, he still believes staying at the Bernabeu is the best thing for his career.

Bale also failed to start last season’s Champions League final as well as either last-16 leg against Paris Saint-Germain.

Manchester United have been long-term admirers of the former Tottenham winger, and would be among the frontrunners should he become available in the summer.

But Bale will feel he can still win back Zidane’s trust, as several of his team-mates have during the Frenchman’s short — but incredibly successful — tenure at the club.

Isco, Marco Asensio and Lucas Vazquez have all been brought back into the team, having originally been marginalised.

Casemiro was also taken off at half-time against Juve but after the clash, Zidane admitted that neither player was to blame for the decision.

Bale joined for £86million in 2013 as the world’s most expensive player and has won the Champions League on three occasions.
