The former England midfielder, 34, was expected to be one of the first names shipped off this summer.
Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has agreed to a one-year contract extension at Old Trafford after Jose Mourinho talks him into staying another year
However, new boss Jose Mourinho is apparently a fan of Carrick’s ball-playing, defensive-midfield role.
And Carrick confirmed the new Portuguese boss was an integral factor in him staying at Old Trafford for another 12 months.
The ex-West Ham man said: “This great club has been a part of my life for the past ten years, so I am delighted that this incredible journey is continuing.
Michael Carrick is hoping to win even more silverware with Manchester United under Jose Mourinho after getting his hands on the FA Cup in the 2015-16 season
“It’s great to have the opportunity to work under Jose Mourinho, who has achieved so much during his managerial career.
“I would like to thank the fans for their unwavering support.
