And that has led to interest from Barcelona and Atletico Madrid in the midfielder.

However, ESPN claim that sources close to the star have told them that he is glad to continue his career at Old Trafford.

Herrera was out of contract at the end of this season but United are triggering a one-year extension in the 28-year-old’s deal.

With the player, his partner and child all being settled in Manchester, there is hope on both sides that an agreement can be reached to extend his stay even further.

He fuelled speculation of a move to Barcelona by praising Nou Camp boss Ernesto Valverde

That is despite his comments recently praising Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde.

He said: “I feel a great admiration for Valverde.

“He shows that you can be a great coach while being a very great person.”

Atletico were also cheekily hoping to try and bring him to the Spanish capital, with United linked with their ace Saul Niguez.

Herrera enjoyed a key role under Jose Mourinho during the last campaign and won the club’s Player of the Year award as well as the EFL Cup and Europa League.

However, since the summer arrival of Nemanja Matic, he has found opportunities much harder to come by.

That has led to Herrera publicly denying that he has had a fall-out with the Red Devils chief.
