MANCHESTER UNITED are reported to have joined Chelsea in the pursuit of Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski.
The Polish international has been regarded as one of the best strikers in world football over the last few years after his impressive form in the Bundesliga.

But there have been suggestions he is not totally happy with life at German champions Bayern, and that has sparked the interest of Premier League clubs.

Lewandowski’s German agent Maik Barthel said: “Robert told me that he got no support and that the coach gave no call to help him in the last game to win the top-scorer title.
“He was disappointed as I have never seen him before.
“He really hoped that the team would support him proactively.”

Lewandowski lost out to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the battle to finish top scorer in Germany last season, which Barthel says has unsettled him at the Allianz Arena.
That story has alerted clubs in England who have long admired the forward but always thought he would be out of their reach.

Real Madrid tried hard over the past few years to take the 28-year-old to the Bernabeu but have never been able to tempt Bayern into selling.
And that would be the problem facing both Chelsea and United if they decide to act on their interest.

The Blues were already known to have been looking at Lewandowski, who finished last season with 31 goals to his name.
Manager Antonio Conte is looking to bring in two front line attackers as he prepares to off-load Diego Costa, having dumped him by text message earlier this month.
But now reports emerging from Poland suggest United have also shown an interest in taking the forward if he became available.

United boss Jose Mourinho has twice tried to sign the Pole in the past at Real and Chelsea, and would be open to the idea of taking him to Old Trafford.
They are in the market for attacking players themselves with a deal for Alvaro Morata close to being tied up with Real.
If Lewandowski became available United would consider making an approach, though they would need to know Bayern were willing to sell before they make a bid.
