Manchester United collect £8million bonus thanks to Tottenham, Southampton and West Ham failing in Europa League
MANCHESTER UNITED stand to make an extra £8million from their Europa League run – because the rest of their Premier League rivals flopped so badly in the competition.
United face Ajax in the Europa League final next week knowing a place in the lucrative Champions League is up for grabs for the winners.

But they have not been as badly hit financially missing out on Europe’s top competition this season because of the woeful displays of West Ham, Tottenham and Southampton.
Usually United would expect to receive between £15-£20m from a Europa League campaign, but this year the stand to make up to £14m more.
That is because winning the trophy next week would see them earn £6m, while they are collecting a bigger slice of the broadcasting money available to English clubs than usual.
Each year a certain amount is set aside for each nation as part of the television deals, to be shared out between clubs who compete in the tournament.

But West Ham failed to even make it out of the qualifying stages of the competition after losing to Romanian minnows Astra Giurgiu in the play-offs.
Southampton only managed six games before they were dumped out in the group stages, having finished behind Sparta Prague and Hapoel Be’er Sheva in Group K.

That meant a larger than normal slice of the pot was diverted to Old Trafford, which could now see them make as much £32m in total from the Europa League this season.
And that would leave the club just £8m-10m down on where they would have been had they been playing in the Champions League group stages this season.
