Mourinho hit back with his programme notes before the Benfica game saying: “I hope that you enjoy the game more than some of you did against Tottenham.”

The Manchester United Supporters Trust (MUST) invited Mourinho to speak to them and fans’ representatives about his issues.

However, the invitation fell flat on it’s face when the Portuguese coach declined the offer at his press conference ahead of Sunday’s crunch game against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Mourinho said: “I cannot meet a quarter of the planet.

“I think a quarter of the planet is Manchester United red. I cannot meet them.”

The United boss will need all the United travelling fans on his side as he returns to Stamford Bridge in charge of the Reds for the third time since his sacking.

Mourinho watched on last season as his side fell apart in the Premier League losing 4-0 and by a single goal in the FA Cup.

And Mourinho who had two spells in charge in West London insists he has no issue with the Chelsea fans giving him stick during the game.

He added: “That’s not a problem at all, I walk in the street and outside the football ‘heat’ I get so many Chelsea fans, especially in the area where I live, and I didn’t have one single one that wasn’t nice.

“What happened in the football stadium is a different thing. When I go to Stamford Bridge, I am the manager of their opponent so I accept every possible reaction with the utmost respect.”
