Manchester United avoid nasty clash with Feyenoord fans ahead of Europa League match as police escort Dutch visitors to Old Trafford

MANCHESTER police escorted rowdy Feyenoord fans to their Europa League clash with Jose Mourinho’s United on Friday night to avoid any trouble between the two sets of fans.

The travelling Dutch group made plenty of noise and caused disruptions to local traffic services but no violence was reported.

Police escorted the visitors to Old Trafford via Whardfside Way which caused havoc with local traffic and commuters.

It was claimed that hundreds of Feyenoord fans made the trip to Manchester without having tickets to the game and were interested in touting tickets outside the stadium or just soaking up the atmosphere.

Around 7,500 Dutch fans are expected to have travelled to England and earlier in the day there was a flashpoint that threatened to sour the day.

Outside a Manchester pub, a drink was thrown from a group of Feyenoord fans and hit a woman passing by in the face.

This came after worrying news that up to 4,500 Feyenoord supporters had managed to buy tickets in home sections of the ground on the Manchester United website.
