Manchester City transfer news: Pep Guardiola eyeing reunion with ex-Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes this summer

May 10, 2017

VICTOR VALDES has reportedly emerged as a shock target for Manchester City this summer.

The Spanish goalkeeper will leave relegated Middlesbrough on a free this summer due to a clause in his contract.

And he could be set for a reunion with his former Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola at the Etihad.

Despite Boro’s return to the Championship being confirmed with the 3-0 defeat at Chelsea on Monday, the stopper has impressed at the Riverside.

According to Inside Football in the Bleacher Report, City have already touched base with his representatives about a switch across the Pennines.

Malaga and Deportivo La Coruna were said to be leading the chase for the 35-year-old.

Claudio Bravo looks unlikely to remain as City’s No1 next season with backup goalie Willy Caballero set to depart the club at the end of the season.

A return for Joe Hart, shipped out on loan to Torino for the season, also looks unlikely.

That means the addition of at least one new goalkeeper remains a priority for Guardiola.

Valdes played under the Spanish coach for four trophy-laden years at the Nou Camp.

During that time they won 14 major honours together.
