Manchester City star Benjamin Mendy gives Pep Guardiola boost as he starts ball work in knee injury rehab

BENJAMIN MENDY has given Manchester City a massive boost by starting ball work in his knee rehab.

The France left-back suffered a cruciate-ligament injury in September but is now due back in full training within a month.

Pep Guardiola has included the 23-year-old in his updated Premier League squad to raise hopes he will be involved in City’s title run-un.

Mendy said: “It’s a lot better. I worked so hard and now I run, touch the ball, so I just need to keep going and maybe soon I’ll be on the pitch.”

Mendy, the £52million summer signing from Monaco, was injured against Crystal Palace in September and was ruled out until at least April at the time.

Fabian Delph has filled in at left-back and Oleksandr Zinchenko has also been introduced to the first-team.

Mendy added: “The team is so good now, we have two players in my place and every day I speak with them. We are a good group and we need to keep going to take a lot of cups.”

The former Monaco man has been making the most of his time on the sidelines by travelling to Minnesota for the Super Bowl.

And Mendy revealed he told team-mate Sergio Aguero he has to stay at home in Manchester as City need him on the pitch.

He said: “He told me he wants to come but he has a lot of games and we need him on the pitch. So I told him stay in Manchester!”
