A video taken inside the bus by City coach Manel Estiarte shows objects clattering off windows on their route to the stadium.

It was so badly damaged that the club had to request a new coach for the drive back to Manchester after their 3-0 defeat.

And according to the Times the City players, who claimed they weren’t affected by crowd, felt unsafe and made their way to the centre of the coach.

They were afraid that glass windows would shatter over them.

A statement from Uefa reads: “Disciplinary proceedings have been opened following the Uefa Champions League quarter-final first leg match between Liverpool and Manchester City played on April 4 in England.

“Charges against Liverpool are setting off of fireworks, throwing of objects, acts of damage and crowd disturbances.

“The charges of acts of damage and crowd disturbances relate to incidents involving the Manchester City team bus.

“This case will be dealt with by the Uefa Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body on May 31.”

City boss Guardiola expressed his surprise at the incident and was videoed sarcastically clapping and saying “thank you” to police as he stepped off the bus.

He said: “Normally when the police know that is going to happen, they try to avoid it happening.

“The bus is destroyed. I didn’t expect that a club as prestigious as Liverpool would do these kind of things.”
