Manchester City in ‘legend’ tribute to Yaya Toure on teamsheet as veteran superstar starts and shines against Brighton

MANCHESTER CITY paid Yaya Toure a triple tribute as the outgoing superstar was called in for tonight’s 3-1 Premier League win against Brighton.

The Ivory Coast midfielder had his name changed in the teamsheet to “legend”.

And he was handed a rare start as the Etihad Stadium marked what could be his last home game.

And finally he was given a standing ovation when he was taken off after playing 85 minutes – impressively.

Toure, 34, has been one of City‘s outstanding players for most of his eight years in the Premier League.

And he received a warm reception before kick-off.

But then he saw one of the new City generation shine.

Leroy Sane set up three goals in an entertaining clash against the Seagulls, whose survival has already been guaranteed.

Twitter responded warmly when City posted the teamsheet with Toure’s name changed to “legend”.

One fan said he had “a lump in his throat” when he saw the gesture.

And the Etihad supporters gave him a special send-off when he was taken off.
