MANCHESTER CITY are the runaway leaders in the Premier League this season a whopping 16 points ahead of neighbours Manchester United after 27 games.
But boy have they spent big to get there…

In assembling the current squad, Pep Guardiola – and a handful of his predecessors – has spent an incredible £777million, according to CIES Football Observatory.
Recent mega-money signings including £57m-man Aymeric Laporte and fellow £50m defenders Benjamin Mendy and Kyle Walker have attributed to the incredible total sum.
In fact, no club in Europe has spent more on their squad than Man City – with money-bags Paris Saint-Germain the only club to even come close.
French giants PSG has splashed out £712m on their current crop of players, including world-record £198m forward Neymar last summer.

Man United come in third on £661m, with £89m midfielder Paul Pogba attributing a huge chunk of that total expenditure.
Meanwhile, Barcelona (£642m) and Chelsea (£524m) complete the top five, with Real Madrid surprisingly comparatively low spenders.

Los Blancos have spent a total of £440m on their current squad – a full £337m behind runaway leaders City in the spending stakes.
Liverpool are the fourth premier League side in the top seven, splashing out £408m to bring in the likes of Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk in recent months.

Arsenal (£357m) and Everton (£323m) – who spent well over £100m last summer alone – also break into the top ten.
Meanwhile, some of the biggest names in world football, including Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid don’t even break into the top ten.
Amazingly, the likes of Crystal Palace (£199m) and Southampton (£203m) – both in a Premier League relegation battle – do make it into the top 20 biggest spenders.
It’s all the more remarkable when you consider some of the clubs to not make the top 20, including Napoli, Sevilla and high-flying Valencia.
