Liverpool star Danny Ings ends 916 day wait for Premier League start as Jurgen Klopp picks him to face Everton

DANNY INGS has been handed his first Premier League start in almost three years, while Nathaniel Clyne has also been picked by Jurgen Klopp to face Everton.

It’s the former Burnley striker’s first start under the German boss, and his inclusion in the starting XI comes 916 days after netting the opener against the Toffees.

Reds fans will be looking for more of the same from the 25-year-old, who has been troubled by constant injuries since arriving to Anfield in 2015.

His header against Everton in the 1-1 draw was the last time he netted in the top-flight, as he replaces Roberto Firmino upfront.

Clyne meanwhile starts for the first time this season after being plagued by setbacks this campaign, with Klopp expressing his delight at the duo returning to full fitness.

Speaking before the Merseyside derby, the 50-year-old told Sky Sports: “I’m really happy for them, of course, especially Clyney – it’s unbelievable how long he was out.

“[It’s] another really good sign for all of us how we dealt with the situation without him, Joe and Trent did an outstandingly good job.

“But now he’s been back in training for weeks already, played two games for the U23s, so he’s ready.

“Same for Danny, he’s very excited about the opportunity.

“I don’t expect perfection or rhythm, but I expect joy, excitement, having fun in a game like this, being ready to work. And they all will be.”

There is no place in the side for Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah, who picked up an injury during Liverpool’s 3-0 win over Manchester City on Wednesday.
