Talks between the two parties had been going on for the past few weeks, and finally reached conclusion late yesterday afternoon.

Lallana joined Liverpool in a £25m switch from Southampton in 2014 and had to endure a tough start in his first 18 months.

But he has thrived under Klopp, to the point he has become one of the key figures in the team, and also established himself as vital to England’s plans.

Lallana began this season in sparkling form and was one of the main men in Liverpool’s brilliant displays over the first half of the campaign.

And manager Klopp sees the likes of him, Coutinho and Gomez as the foundation stones for a new era of success on Merseyside.
