Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp will attempt to sign German talent Max Meyer for a second time

LIVERPOOL are weighing up a £28.2million move for highly-rated Schalke midfielder Max Meyer.

According to reports in Germany, Jurgen Klopp is a big admirer of the 20-year-old playmaker and made an attempt to sign him whilst in charge of Borussia Dortmund two years ago.

Schalke have a history of producing top talent including Julian Draxler, Manuel Neuer and Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil.

And the German side have equally high hopes for Meyer, who scored five goals and assisted six in 27 league starts last season.

However the Reds face an uphill task of landing Meyer with Schalke bracing themselves to lose another top prospect in Leroy Sane.

The talented winger is wanted by Pep Guardiola at Manchester City and looks likely to complete his move to the Etihad in a £42m deal – making him the second most expensive German footballer behind Mesut Ozil.

Sane handed in a transfer request and Schalke’s sporting director admitted that he could allow the player to leave.

“We will consent to a transfer if Schalke’s conditions are met.” Christian Heidel said.
